The Project Management Institute (PMI) offers interested candidates PMP (project management professional) certificate. PMP is an advanced certification that requires reasonable experience, education and successfully passing a comprehensive test. The rather challenging requirements makes the PMP certificate a very well respected and highly sought after credential. To earn a PMP certification, you will require an extensive project management work experience. You will need to record your experience and present it when you are applying for the PMP certification test. Applicants must present proof of 36 months of project management experience in combination with a bachelor’s degree. If you do not have a bachelor’s degree, you must be able to record 60 months of non-overlapping practice as a project manager – yes, you have to pay your dues.
Even though that it is very possible to earn a PM certificate with an associate’s degree or high school diploma – but please be informed that these cases are few and far between. A large number of the people who apply for a PMP certification are Bachelor degree holders and a lot of them also have a Master’s degree.
Prospective PMPs must be able to complete thirty five (35) hours contact hours of official project management education courses. One can complete these hours through the following:

• Project management seminars
A variety of colleges, both on-campus and internet-based, offer the courses that are necessary to complete these requirements. After completing the educational requirements, you will need to get a certificate of completion. You need to understand that you must meet the educational and work experience requirement before you register for the PMP exam.
The PMP exam has about two hundred (200) questions, which will include a combination of scored and un-scored questions. Roughly twenty five (25) un-scored questions are used in order to measure one’s depth of understanding. The computer-based exam starts with a general tutorial on how to successfully navigate within the system. The exam will last for four hours, which means that you will have four hours to complete the exam. At the end of the fourth hour, the examinees will be logged out whether they have completed answering the questions or not. 61 percent is what you will need in order to pass the exam.

You should also know that the PMP exam costs money, the computer based test cost between 405 and 555 dollars. Writing the PMP exam the old fashioned way (which will definitely be phased out) is also an option – at least for now. The paper-based PMP exam will cost 250 and 400 dollars.
